Research cruises on RV Pelagia may depart from the home port of Texel or from other ports around the world. Before the ship is ready to depart, a number of procedures has to be carried out, for example a customs clearance of all equipment taken on board. To make sure the ship can leave as planned, all equipment transports have to arrive well in advance.

The logistic department is responsible for the arrangement of these transports to foreign ports and for the customs arrangement with the customs office. Furthermore, the logistic department also manages the customs warehouse, where equipment restricted for use at sea is stored.
