Thermistor Strings

During the development of advanced instruments new opportunities can arise, generating possibilities for improved versions of the instrument.

Our thermistor string consists of a 100 m length cable connecting 200 inductively coupled high accuracy temperature sensors for visualizing internal ('underwater') waves.

This thermistor string has been recently upgraded, now featuring decreased energy consumption, smaller dimensions, improved accuracy by a factor of 2 and a XYZ-tilt sensor, enabling the reconstruction of the shape of the mooring line.

Bottom Landers

A lander is a subsea mooring that descends to the sea floor, carries out a series of tasks autonomously for periods of days to years storing data on board, and then ascends to the surface at the end of the mission for recovery by a surface ship. A typical lander comprises a chassis, buoyancy module, recovery module and ballast with release mechanism. Depending on the size of the lander one or more scientific payloads can be attached for monitoring processes in the surface layers of the sediment and the bottom water.
