Ask the Ocean
This page is dedicated to the project: "an ocean of questions" in which anyone can ask the ocean whatever question they might have

Project idea:
Performing artist Jan van den Berg, marine geologist prof. dr. Jan-Berend Stuut (NIOZ/VU Amsterdam) and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) jointly want to collect An Ocean of Questions to be posed to the ocean. Using an already existing satellite connection to two research buoys floating in the Atlantic Ocean, they will give citizens of all ages the opportunity to ask the ocean questions. On a monthly basis a selected panel of experts & non-experts will discuss the questions on radio and television programmes and on the project’s website. Finally, both the series of questions and the conversations about them will be translated by performing artist Jan van den Berg into a lecture performance, which he will perform at the ocean, at scientific conferences and in various theaters in Europe.
This project is meant to kick off on World Ocean Day (8 June) 2024
